Patent Classifier, Chemical and Industrial Arts (TC1700)

KTC/Serco North America is seeking a Patent Classifier to classify patent applications received from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the general fields of industrial materials and processes, such as plastic processing, adhesive bonding, metallurgy, electrolytic processes, separation and purification, inorganic chemistry, etching, and coating.

This is an ideal job for a candidate who would like to make significant contributions to the patent industry while working in the beautiful surroundings of the Shenandoah Valley in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Required Skills:

·Technical expertise in one or more of the following technologies: molding and shaping of plastic and reinforced polymer composite parts, adhesive bonding, metallurgy, electrolytic processes, separation and purification, etching and coating processes, and related technologies, including processing equipment and facilities.
·Ability to function in a production-based environment, including operating efficiently, accurately and at a significant pace.
·Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
·The ability to use computer systems to perform research and classification operations.
·Demonstrated experience performing research.
·Motivated to exceed the contractual productivity and quality targets.
·Ability to work independently and within a team without need of excessive supervision.
·Ability to work on a computer workstation 8 hours per day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·Master the patent classification process.
·Assign classifications in accordance with the US Patent Classification and International Patent Classification systems.
·Classify applications related to specific technologies.
·Continually expand knowledge and expertise into new technologies.
·Work closely with others in a team environment.

Education: A Bachelor of Science, or preferably a Master of Science, in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (with experience or education in Chemical and Mechanical processes), Material Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or in a closely related field.

Experience: 0-2 years of work experience in a professional environment. A process engineering background in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment would be a plus.

Security Clearance: Applicant selected must be a United States citizen and will be subject to a government security investigation to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
