We have a key leadership opening for an Patent Paralegal and invite you to apply for this critical role in our Cary, NC location (No relocation provided).

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing patent paralegal and administrative support to both LORD Intellectual Property attorneys (Chemical and Mechanical). Interacts with LORD personnel at all levels and external counsel worldwide. Position is primarily responsible for documentation in global procurement and maintenance of all LORD patents. Duties include managing an electronic patent docket (PATRIX-PATRICIA), preparing and filing official correspondence to support corporate patent procurement including liaison with outside service providers, documentation of invention record submissions, tracking the invention record process, interacting with organizations such as the US Patent & Trademark Office, annuity provider, and foreign outside counsel; prepare, manage and report on annual patent budget process, including ongoing monitoring and reporting of outside fees and expenses. Must keep apprised of regulatory and rule changes in patent procurement and maintenance in the US, PCT/WIPO and foreign jurisdictions and maintain working familiarity with foreign patent office requirements. Position includes coordination, management and assistance in intellectual property and licensing agreement review, on-line searching of patent and legal databases, and preparation of various management support documents and portfolio projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Associates degree with a minimum of 5 years of patent docketing and US patent office document drafting experience in a patent legal function in a law firm or corporation.

· Proficiency in Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, electronic patent search systems (such as Dialog, Derwent, Delphion, Google Patents) and equivalents.

· High degree of accuracy and reliability in patent docket management including document production, official correspondence, monitoring deadlines, expense tracking, paper and electronic filing with the USPTO, PCT/WIPO and Foreign patent office associates, database searching skills.

· Self-motivated and performs tasks efficiently with attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Strong organization, problem solving and information management skills.

· High ethical standards, honesty and trustworthiness.

· Excellent written and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Paralegal certification.

· Notary public.

· Working knowledge of SAP, PATRIX-PATRICIA electronic patent docket, and Chemdraw software, and basic understanding of FAR/DFAR and export control regulations a plus
