Job Description:
Southborough, MA - The Patent Agent will be responsible for all aspects of U.S. and foreign prosecution for U.S. based Olympus entities in the medical field, including drafting applications and responding to Office Actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in coordination with outside patent counsel.Will conduct competitive landscape searches and review prior art with R&D staff at regular meetings. The incumbent will be the primary interface with Engineers and Technical Staff regarding new patent filings. EOE M/F/D/V

* Manage all aspects of U.S. prosecution, including drafting applications and responses to Office Actions.

*Conduct competitive landscape searches and review prior art withResearch and Developmentstaff at regular meetings.

* Responsible for the prosecution process from invention disclosure to the issued patent.

* Manage theintake of invention disclosures and review disclosures for patentability.

* Manage Intellectual Property (IP) docketing and database in coordination with support staff.

* Conduct patent clearance studies and patentability searches.

* Assist with training programs for Engineers on topics such as patent searching and other issues.

* Coordinate with the Intellectual Property (IP) Liaison to Tokyo on prosecution issues that impact global business objectives.

* Assist the Counsel, Intellectual Property in developing and executing portfolio management strategy.

* Responsible for other litigation, licensing, acquisition, or partnership due diligence as necessary.

* Coordinate with outside counsel on prosecution matters.

* Instruct foreign patent associates on foreign filings and Office Actions.

* Conduct infringement and invalidity studies in support of litigation.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.


* ABachelor'sdegree in an Electrical Engineering, Opto-Electronics, or Medical Device Design field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

* A minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution is required. Specifically, experience in patent prosecution for mechanical and electrical devices, software, sensor technology, and optical technology is preferred.

* Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

* The ability to travel up to 20% to support other locations is required.
