Job Description:
This position reports to the Managing IP Attorney, Exploration and Production Segment, who in turn reports to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, Associate General Counsel. The attorney will be a member of BP’s Global Patent and Technology Law group (GPTL) which comprises approximately 25 IP attorneys, with members in Warrenville, IL; Houston, TX; and Sunbury on Thames, UK. This position will be the fourth attorney in the GPTL group in Houston, among a group of approximately 74 attorneys in the Houston office. The GPTL group is part of BP’s Intellectual Property practice, which also includes the Trademark team. BP legal worldwide has approximately 400 attorneys. Occasional travel from Houston to IL and the UK will be required, estimated at less than 5% travel time.

Candidates must have a demonstrated capacity to overcome obstacles and use an adaptable approach to achieve outstanding results, a shared commitment to the success of the team and the wider organization, and must be able to assimilate complex and ambiguous data to identify key issues and aid decision making. Candidates must be skilled at legal analysis and reasoning, must be able to apply legal knowledge to business situations, and must have excellent client counseling and advocacy skills. Candidates must also have a demonstrated capacity to build and maintain close working relationships with colleagues and clients.
