The VP Intellectual Property QUALIFICATIONS

Deep Technical expertise and experience in identifying potentially important inventions, evaluating invention disclosures and identifying relevant commercially-important patentable subject matter. The position requires proven skills in patent portfolio development and management. The candidate should be reasonably knowledgeable of US patent law and have exposure to best practices regarding US patent preparation, filing and prosecution. Familiarity with foreign patent practice and procedure including PCT, EPO and/or CPO/JPO would be a plus. 5 – 10 years of overall expertise in these areas would be a big plus.

The candidate must have excellent business judgment, people and management skills, and be a collaborative and cooperative team player, a team builder, with excellent and demonstrable communication and writing skills. The candidate must have strong leadership and analytical skills, be comfortable in working in a small, collaborative and transparent IP Group in a less-structured environment to establish new processes and metrics and be capable of scoping, leading, managing, reporting progress and handling multiple projects and tasks efficiently through prioritization with the big picture firmly in mind. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to argue logically, rationally and convincingly. Experience in working successfully with foreign cultures is a plus. The position will require periodic and routine travel to other Nielsen locations.

Strong technical skills are essential. An advanced degree (or bachelor’s degree with equivalent industry experience) in electrical engineering and/or computer science is required. The candidate will preferably have demonstrated industry expertise in one or more of: electrical engineering, computers (hardware and software), communications (telephony, cable and/or mobile device), and internet/online technology, especially as applicable to the areas of media audience measurement and consumer research. Strong technical skills in one or more of: signal processing, data encoding/decoding techniques, web browsers/HTML, cell phone architecture and cellular networks as applicable to audience measurement and consumer research would be a big plus as would expertise in Nielsen’s industry.
