Patent Analyst/IP Manager (Part Time; Contract to Hire)


This position is a part-time; contract to hire position with the potential to go full-time based on business needs.

We are an innovative leading-edge medical device company transforming the scope of pathology and are looking for a Patent Analyst / IP Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate is a detail oriented and experienced Patent Analyst / Manager of IP who can manage, strategically grow, as well as defend our patent portfolio. In this role you will be working with engineers to identify and draft patent applications as well as help to understand implications of competitive patents. Further you will be working with the business stakeholders to strategically analyze the competitive patent landscape, make recommendations on licensing as well as potential prosecution, and perform due diligence. Last but not least, you will be the primary contact point for our legal counsel on IP matters and educate the company on IP and licensing.


· Manage, grow, and defend the Omnyx patent portfolio

· Strategically perform searches relating to patentability (novelty), validity, freedom-to-operate and infringement

· Conduct long-term patent landscape studies to identify trends in a technology field, deliver competitive intelligence and identify potential research and licensing opportunities

· Communicate effectively with engineers in determining the scope of searches and draft informative reports that clarify and summarize invention disclosures

· Draft invention disclosures and new patent applications, working effectively with engineers

· Analyze patents and patent applications from competitors and prepare reports and in house guidance on risk and risk mitigation

· Sheppard patent filings through prosecution

· Regularly and effectively update senior management on all matters related to IP and licensing

· Act as main liaison to outside legal counsel on IP matters

· Conduct and manage due diligence

· Educate the company on basic matters regarding IP and licensing


· Bachelors degree in Engineering or related discipline

· 5 years of experience preparing and successfully prosecuting patent applications

· 3 years experience establishing IP and licensing strategies either as an inventor or patent analyst

· 2 years experience in defensive and offensive IP filings, trade secrets and publishing novel works.

· Proficiency with commercial patent databases and other proprietary databases that disclose technical publications.

· Experience establishing collaborative research, non-disclosure, and licensing agreements

· Outstanding written, verbal and presentation communication skills

· Proven record of sound legal and business judgment

· Clearance to work within the United States

Desired Characteristics

· Experience in the pathology domain

· Experience in imaging, software or medical device

· An understanding of HIPAA, identity management, and auditing
