Yahoo! is looking for an experienced copyright attorney to join the Trademarks, Domains, and Copyright (TDC) Team within Yahoo!s Legal Department. Job Description:
As Senior Legal Director, TDC, your primary responsibility will be copyright counseling and strategy, with a global focus. In this role, you will be called upon to help solve some of the most pressing, difficult issues facing our company and our industry. You will be responsible for helping operationalize those solutions, and you will serve as an advocate for those solutions, both internally and externally, to various potential stakeholders, including senior executives, the press, industry associations and governmental bodies.
- Work with the product development teams, business executives, Yahoo!s international legal teams, and outside legal counsel to evaluate products and promotions and provide creative solutions that permit legally sound execution of business objectives
- Lead efforts to develop copyright and other risk management policies and programs, and coordinate with others inside the company to implement and maintain those policies
- Ensure compliance with a wide range of applicable laws, regulations, and Yahoo!s own high standards for quality and integrity
- Interface with industry and government stakeholders as well as Yahoo!s international legal and policy teams on industry initiatives as well as legislative and other policy matters
- Work with Yahoo!s Copyright and IP Team, which handles compliance matters, including DMCA takedown notices, for copyright and trademark.

Additional responsibilities may also include management of dispute resolutions prior to litigation and providing support for ongoing copyright litigation, including advisement on licensing and other transactional questions as they arise.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
- JD degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Active membership in a state bar association, preferably California
- Approximately 10 years of legal experience handling copyright advice, counseling, and litigation matters
- Thorough understanding of the intricacies of copyright law, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DCMA)
- Ability to anticipate trends in case law legislation
- Extensive experience applying legal theories to novel business models and developing creative solutions to achieve business goals
- Outstanding communications skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Internet structure and operations
- Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate operational processes and clearly communicate complex information and legal analyses

Preferable Job Qualifications:
- Prior in-house experience highly preferred
- Understanding of foreign copyright laws is desirable but not required
- Ability to interface with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels and functions of the company as well as external organizations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment with the ability and interest in thinking strategically
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in fast-paced environment, making sound business and legal decisions under tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Requisite sense of humor
