Patent Classifier, Mechanical Engineer

KTC is seeking a Patent Classifier to classify patent applications received from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the general fields of Mechanical Engineering including various types of propulsion systems including internal combustion, gas and steam turbine engines, and associated control and power transmission systems.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is seeking a team driven environment, but also is a strong, independent worker. Our facility is brand new and fully run by Serco North America in support of the contract with the USPTO. This is an ideal job for a candidate who would like to make significant contributions to the patent industry while working in the beautiful surroundings of the Shenandoah Valley in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Required Skills:

·Technical expertise in one or more of the following technologies: Various types of internal and external combustion engines, gas and steam turbines, and associated monitoring, control, and power transmission systems.
·Ability to function in a production-based environment, including operating efficiently, accurately and at a significant pace.
·Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
·The ability to use computer systems to perform research and classification operations.
·Demonstrated experience performing research.
·Motivated to exceed the contractual productivity and quality targets.
·Ability to work independently and within a team without need of excessive supervision.
·Ability to work on a computer workstation 8 hours per day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·Master the patent classification process.
·Assign classifications in accordance with the US Patent Classification and International Patent Classification systems.
·Classify applications related to specific technologies.
·Continually expand knowledge and expertise into new technologies.
·Work closely with others in a team environment.

Education: A Bachelor of Science, in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering or Physics.

Experience: 1-2 years of work experience in a professional environment. A background and familiarity with various types of engine design, fabrication, and maintenance systems would be highly beneficial to this position.

Security Clearance: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a United States citizen.
