Job Description:
Intellectual Ventures Legal Services is looking for a Patent Paralegal with our Invention Science Fund group. We are looking for an individual who loves fast-paced business action, is detail-oriented, independently motivated, and has the confidence and ability to interact with clients and co-workers in a professional, approachable, and positive manner.

Intellectual Ventures (“IV”) is a privately-held, invention investment company based in Bellevue, Washington.Their business model centers on creating, acquiring and licensing pure invention in a variety of technology areas.They plan to commercialize inventions through licensing, spin-offs, joint ventures and industry partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

Work under direction of patent prosecutors with U.S. patent filing preparationMay provide administrative support to multiple patent prosecutors for daily work and/or special projects such as Missing Parts Letters to Inventors, Information Disclosure Statements, Docketing, Requests for Correction of Filing Receipts, Assignment Recordations, etc. Develop Proficiency in inventor protocols, USPTO patent procedures and ISF-specific patent proceduresUse the USPTO website/Private and Public PAIR for obtaining current status of Applications, used to make sure that responses have been received and processed and when processing prosecutors docket reports.Use of IP Master and the Related IDs/Patent Relations tab and report to keep track of complex “families” of Applications for use in SIDS and when new cases are filed.Proofread draft Applications (App, Figs, Claims) for consistency across all three items, checking claim dependencies, antecedent basis, component numbers, cross referencing, abstract, detailed description.Prepare and draft various responses to the USPTO for the prosecutors review and signature.Effectively communicate and outsource files to Outside Counsel.Audit billing from Outside Counsel prior to forwarding to Accounts Payable.Monitor docket for deadlines.Update legal calendar.Follow established company policies.

Key Qualifications and Required Skills:

Basic knowledge of USPTO patent prosecution processesWill be expected to quickly learn ISF processesExcellent organizational and communication skillsFamiliar with Microsoft OfficeMust be detail oriented and have ability to multi-taskMust exhibit strong interpersonal skillsEducation and Training Requirements:

· Minimum of 1-4 years patent prosecution experience

· Paralegal certification desired but not required
