Job Description:

The Patent Attorney or Patent Agent will prepare and prosecute US, PCT, and foreign patent applications; provide client counseling to internal business groups; and assist with the development and implementation of patent, business, and licensing strategies.

Responsibilities
• Prepare and prosecute domestic and foreign patent applications
• Provide strategic advice, recommendations, and assistance to Research & Development, Pharmaceutical Science, Device Engineering, and Business Development
• Conduct due diligence, patentability, and freedom-to-operate analyses
• Assist in the preparation of agreements involving intellectual property
• Assist in European oppositions, US reexaminations, and patent litigation

Necessary Experience:

 Requirements
• Licensed to practice law in California (although other jurisdictions will be considered)
• 3-7 years of IP experience, including client counseling; US and foreign patent prosecution; and due diligence, patentability, and freedom-to-operate assessments
• Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to understand and advise on practical applications of IP to the business needs of the company
• Technical backgrounds in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, and related fields prefer.
