Job Title: Senior Intellectual Property AttorneyLocation: Goleta, CA


The Senior Intellectual Property Attorney will be responsible for providing intellectual property legal and strategic support and counsel across the Company. The position is responsible for managing the company’s global intellectual property portfolio including trademarks and patents and IP litigation, including oversight of the Company’s brand protection and anti-counterfeit efforts which are led by our Director of Brand Protection – who will report directly to this individual. The newly-created position will report directly to the General Counsel and will work closely with the Company’s brand teams, advanced concepts group and outside counsel.

Main Responsibilities:

Developing and implementing enterprise-wide IP protection and development strategies Interacting with brands, supply chain and advanced concepts groups to identify, harvest, protect, and acquire intellectual property rights globally Managing outside counsel on a variety of intellectual property related matters to include preparing and prosecuting global trademarks and patents, as well as litigation Managing the Company’s intellectual property litigationDrafting, negotiating and interpreting agreements for intellectual property and technology law-related matters, including license agreements and IP and technology law-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures Providing infringement opinions and analysis of third-party IP competitive intelligence related to corporate strategies Providing advice regarding marketing and advertising Development of internal policies and procedures for the handling of intellectual propertyManaging and partnering with a high performing Director of Brand Protection – who oversees a team of 5 – providing appropriate oversight and empowering her success.


Bachelor's degree (B. A./B.S.), Juris Doctorate (J.D.), from an ABA approved law school and a minimum of 8-10 years combined law firm and in-house related experience in intellectual property practice A strong working knowledge of current IP law, principally trademarks and patents is required. Some experience and or interest in marketing a plus.“natural leadership and presence” with ability to interact directly with the CEO as well as brand teams.Proficiency in all Microsoft Office functions, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; familiarity with databases and legal researching tools. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; must be proactive, work well under pressure and be willing to take on new challenges; excellent verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge and understanding of international policy initiatives and programs as they relate to a multi-national, United States based corporation.Experience in managing/leading an in-house legal team and supervising outside counsel in a variety of jurisdictions.
