Job Summary:Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is one of the largest, most diverse and complex installations in the Air Force, encompassing approximately 11,000 civilian positions. Position Summary: This position is located at the Air Force Command Law Office, Intellectual Property Law Division. You will assist senior advisor in providing Intellectual Property advice and services, including: conducting legal and scientific research; preparing and prosecuting patent applications; advising and assisting Air Force and contractor employees on rights in inventions, patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, technical data and computer software and other instruments for the transfer of Air Force technology.

This position will be filled at the GS-11 grade level. The incumbent may be promoted to the GS-12 grade level after one year and the GS-13 grade level after serving in the GS-12 for one year. All qualification and eligibility requirements must be metprior to promotion.

Key Requirements: U.S. citizenship required. Travel and relocation expenses may or may not be paid. Must obtain/maintain appropriate security clearance. Major Duties:

MAJOR DUTIES: Serving as a Patent Advisor trainee, under the guidance of a senior patent attorney, file and prosecute patent applications; advise and assist federal laboratories and Technology Transfer officials, provide other intellectual Property law and Technology Transfer services, as assigned.

This announcement will result in a 90-day register which may be used to fill similar vacancies for 90 days.



Degree: major in a scientific, technological, or engineering field, OR

Combination of education as aboveand related experience, OR Four years of scientific, technological, or engineering experience that demonstrated knowledge equivalent to that which would have been obtained through successful completion of a full 4-year degree as shown in A above. Evaluation of Experience: Professional patent work experience that involved either the examination or the preparation and prosecution of applications for U.S. Patents; or experience gained as a Patent Attorney, Patent Adviser, Patent Examiner, Patent Classifier, Patent Interference Examiner, Patent Research and Development Examiner, Patent Examiner Specialist, or Law Examiner (Patents) is acceptable for any of the professional experience as required above.


At least one year of professional patent work experience that involved either the examination or the preparation and prosecution of applications for U.S. Patents; or experience gained as a Patent Attorney, Patent Adviser, Patent Examiner, Patent Classifier, Patent Interference Examiner, Patent Research and Development Examiner, Patent Examiner Specialist, or Law Examiner (Patents) which is equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (Federal service is not required), ORin addition to meeting the basic requirements as stated above, possession of a law degree from a recognized school of law, or membership in the bar of any State, territory, or the District of Columbia, AND three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in the general sciences, engineering, or mathematics.)

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.
