Overview:
Patent Agent will be responsible for the support of intellectual property (IP) needs of Bard Access Systems. The Patent Agent will assist the BAS IP Team with the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications, preparation of legal opinions, as well as helping maintain legal work in-house to reduce external costs.

Summary of Position with General Responsibilities:
Patent Agent will be responsible for the support of intellectual property (IP) needs of Bard Access Systems. The Patent Agent will assist the BAS IP Team with the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications, preparation of legal opinions, as well as helping maintain legal work in-house to reduce external costs.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist inventors in preparing invention disclosures
2. Assist in review of new products for possible patentable subject matter
3. Conducting patent searches and determining patentability of inventions prior to filing
4. Advise Division IP Counsel on IP and related legal matters
5. Prepare legal opinions with respect to third party patents
6. Draft clearance opinions for BAS products
7. Develop and implement BAS patent strategy
8. Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions
9. Assist Division IP Counsel with prior art analysis and patent portfolio analysis
10. Work with internal Division IP Counsel in preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications
11. Work with intellectual property paralegal in keeping intellectual property organized, docketed, accessible, and updated.

 

Necessary Experience:

1.At least three to five years of significant patent prosecution experience either at a law firm or in-house patent department
2.Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
3.Thorough knowledge of patent law and U.S. Patent and Trademerk Office policies
4.Familiarity with international and domestic filings
5.Must have experience in drafting, preparing, and prosecuting patent applications.
