Job Description:


Provide strategic litigation and legal advice to various AstraZeneca senior management, business teams and R&D organizations respecting US and global intellectual property litigations and related global intellectual property issues. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of patent litigation and procedures and the ability to apply that knowledge to achieve established company goals. Responsibilities require global interaction and coordination with AstraZeneca´s lawyers, paralegals, patent attorneys, scientists and external affairs personnel. The incumbent is responsible for setting strategies and managing a caseload of multiple patent lawsuits and claims in the US and Canada. The attorney will personally manage and lead teams comprised of internal and external resources to achieve cost effective and successful outcomes. Key responsibilities include the development of case strategies and budgets as well as active involvement in each patent litigation matter, which typically will include, for example, the factual investigation, pretrial pleadings, discovery and motions practice and dispute resolution (whether by settlement, trial or ADR). The position will also provide opportunities to become involved in preventative law initiatives and the development and delivery of training on various legal subjects.

Necessary Experience:


· JDdegree plus 6-8 years employment in patent litigation as a private practice litigation attorney or in-house litigation counsel. 
· Litigation-team management experience. 
· Excellent oral and written communications skills, and human relations skills. 

· Patent litigation experience in Hatch-Waxman matters or cases involving pharmaceutical or biotechnology arts. 
· An educational background in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or similar arts 
· Registration in the US Patent and Trademark Office.
