Business Unit / Department

IP department is responsible for the protection of TomTom products and services against unauthorized copying by third parties. By obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights, such as patents and trademarks, TomTom can prevent the competition from reproducing our unique solutions. IP department is also responsible for fighting counterfeit goods and for safeguarding the company's single most valuable asset, the TomTom brand.

Your Opportunity

The Patent Engineer will provide patents’ specific expertise and support to the Head of IP utilising technical and legal knowledge and skills to identifying and registering patentable innovations by the company’s employees and consultants.

Your main tasks will be:
-Working with the Company’s employees to ensure that intellectual property created by employees is promptly protected and safeguarded and to protect the Company’s intellectual property in a timely and efficient manner;
-Providing ongoing training and education of employees on patent creation and generation – from hardware to software to business process patents – and IP protection
-Reviewing ideas created by company’s employees;
-Drafting patent specifications
-Implementing patent filing strategy
-Assistance in dealing with third party requests for licensing

Necessary Experience:

 Your Profile

-Degree qualification
-Engineering degree
-Experience in drafting patent applications
-Experience in working within patents field in patent office or in-house patents department
-Lateral thinker and problem solver
-Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
-Able to manage a complex caseload, prioritising as necessary to meet deadlines
-Team player – commitment to the company’s commercial objectives
-Self starter and proactive
-Innovative, enthusiastic, resourceful, energetic
-Enjoys and works well under pressure
