SONGS Music Publishing is a full-service music publisher that represents a wide range of songwriters, including Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin), Tokyo Police Club, Rhett Miller & The Old 97’s, Drake Bell, The Album Leaf, among many others. Incorporated in 2004, SONGS operates with a bi-coastal presence and is one of the fastest growing independent publishers.


The New York office is seeking a Copyright Assistant to provide support in the following areas:

· Copyright administration
· Royalty processing


This entry-level position will provide basic support to the administration and royalty side of our business. While certainly a creatively-oriented company, our foundation rests on the diligent administration of copyrights and the tracking, processing and reporting of a wide array of financial and accounting data.

Following are the essential duties and responsibilities:

Copyright administration

· Register new songs
· Prepare mechanical licenses and analyze rate information for entry into royalty system
· Prepare synch licenses and track licensing process (collection of air-dates, cue sheets)
· Deliver catalog information to outside parties
· Interface with artist managers to requisition information on writers, songs, albums and agreements


· Track royalty receipts, including regular communication with record labels and societies
· Review and process statements for entry into royalty system
· Routine banking, including deposit preparation
· Handle special projects as necessary

Necessary Experience:


· B.A. from a 4-year undergraduate institution
· Industry experience desired
· Excellent analytical and mathematical ability
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Outlook; familiarity with Counterpoint
· Experience with data-entry into relational databases (e.g. Filemaker)
· Ability to multitask and prioritize high work volume
· Good communication skills
· Highly detail-oriented
